Our values
6 key features that put us ahead of the competition
Connectivity
We believe that good relationships are the key to success. We nurture these with both our employees and our business partners. Because we are located in a rural area, we are also actively involved in village life.
A century
of tradition
Our family has been involved in wood for more than a century. Years of experience have resulted in first-class elements that come from our own hands.
The geographical
factor
The Mediterranean climate and the geological features of the Karst region offer excellent conditions for the natural drying of wood. Modern processes further reduce the water content of the wood, improving its mechanical properties and bio-resistance.
Sustainable
management
We understand the importance of responsible environmental management, as demonstrated by our many certificates. The work process is based on maximising the efficiency of the wood, and the energy that powers it is mostly derived from renewable sources.
Processing
technology
We are the largest processor of beech logs in the region. The company’s activities are carried out entirely in one place, which allows continuous control over the quality of the wood and significantly speeds up the process chain.
Easy
accessibility
The company is located near all the major transport infrastructure. We are less than 20 km from the motorway, the airport and the port.
Our story
The proximity of the sea and the permeable limestone composition of the soil in the Karst Plateau provide unique conditions for the natural drying of the wood.
The lack of precipitation and its rapid infiltration into the extensive underground world of surface caves creates an environment of low humidity, while the constant presence of the mild and warm mistral and the gusty and cold winds ensure the indispensable rapid air circulation. Our ancestors were already able to make the most of the favourable geographical conditions.
The local authority grants consent to our great-grandfather Karol Jelen to carry out the craft of making wooden wine barrels. This local craft is preserved until 1947.
Grandfather Just Marušič, together with his son Kazimir, buys machinery from the Agricultural Cooperative and revives the wood business.
The increasing demand for our products was the reason for the establishment of Marušič d.o.o. as we know it today.
The company remains 100% family-owned. Over the years, we have established ourselves on the global market and have become a part of major retail chains.
